The traditional dry rock garden style of Japan, originated and developed from the 16th century, features a pond, an arch-shaped bridge, stone bridges, and a wooden pavilion arranged in a certain manner and interspersed with stones and sand compiled together to resemble mountains and seas found in nature. Numerous colored carps swim in peace inside the ponds, while iris flowers (Iris ensata var. spontanea (Makino) Nakai) and maple trees (Acer palmatum Thumb.) cast beautiful shadows over them.
